We tasted this on a drizzly Thursday afternoon and genuinely forgot what we were supposed to be doing for the rest of the day. DOMAINE DE BELLENE SANTENAY LES CHARMES DESSUS BLANC 2022 is the kind of white Burgundy that makes you go very quiet, then very loud. Creamy, buttery, gloriously textured Chardonnay from one of the Côte de Beaune's most underrated appellations. We liberated as much as they'd let us take. ​ Nicolas Potel runs Domaine de Bellene with the kind of obsessive attention that makes sommeliers weep with joy. Based in Beaune, he farms biodynamically and sources from some of Burgundy's finest terroirs. Les Charmes Dessus sits on the gentler slopes of Santenay, limestone-rich soils giving that gorgeous chalky backbone beneath all that opulence. The 2022 vintage? Warm, ripe, concentrated. Exactly the conditions that let Chardonnay develop that luscious, almost unctuous mouthfeel without losing freshness. ​ It opens with toasted hazelnut and buttered pastry on the nose, then waves of poached pear, crème brûlée, and honeyed citrus across the palate.
