So, it’s only fitting that Blackbird Vineyards’ 2019 Illustration is a soulful, soaring tribute to the grape that often plays second fiddle but here it leads the charge!!!! ​ Founded in 2003, Blackbird set out with a rebellious streak: to prove that Napa Valley could speak French—specifically the elegant, Merlot-heavy dialect of Bordeaux’s Right Bank. The 2019 vintage is the pinnacle of that mission. It’s a Proprietary Red that prioritises poise and silkiness over raw power. ​ After 21 months in French oak, this blend is pure velvet. It balances toasted cedar and cocoa nibs with a lush core of black cherry and plum. Expect ultra-fine tannins, a whisper of tobacco, and a finish as smooth as silk. ​ It’s a bottle with plenty to say, so pull the cork and let the conversation begin!!!!
